Microdermabrasion-The Inside Info

Microdermabrasion has become huge business in salons in recent years. Promising to slough away dead skin cells and reveal smooth, glowing and younger skin, it’s easy to see why some clients are opting for microdermabrasion over standard facials. ‘’People are using microdermabrasion as a cosmetic procedure as well as for specific skin issues’’ explains Patricia Molloy at Derma Laser Clinics.

Microdermabrasion was first developed in Italy in 1985, but it’s really only over the last few years that the treatment has taken off in Ireland. Commonly known as the lunchtime peel, it requires no anaesthetic and has a very low risk compared with some other techniques, such as chemical peeling and standard dermabrasion. ‘’It’s really a treatment that has been perfected over the last five years’’, explains Patricia. ‘’The treatment involves the use of tiny crystals, s odium crystals are the safest, being very gently sandblasted on the skin. The client will feel a little force on the skin because the crystals are going on the skin and then being sucked back in, but it’s not painful at all.
